As the first book of the Hat Shop Mystery series, Ms. McKinlay does not disappoint. In her usual fashion, she creates a book with engaging characters and such vividly described locales that it’s easy to get lost in the pages. The cover design by Robert Steele is nothing to frown about either. I literally can’t stop looking at how beautiful it is.

The story itself introduces us to Scarlett, an American who co-owns her deceased grandmother’s hat shop in London with her whimsical cousin Vivian. After a disastrous video goes viral, Scarlett up and moves from Florida to the beloved shop to begin a whirlwind life that includes murder.

The entire book left me wanting more, and having read it in less than 24 hours I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has to offer.

Rating: 10/10 fascinator hats
