Poppy McVie: Whale Facts

  • 56 orcas are currently being held captive in 14 marine parks spanning 8 different countries
  • Of these 56 animals, 21 were captured from the wild and 35 were born in captivity
  • Since 1961, 148 orcas have been taken into captivity
  • In total, 161 orcas have died in captivity (this does not include the 30 whale calves that were miscarried or still born)
